Tunga: Me, You and the Moon
San Miguel Church (Arévalo)
Me, You and the Moon is an installation by the Brazilian artist Tunga (1952–2016), on loan from collector Sarina Tang, presented in the Church of San Miguel in Arévalo. The work combines materials such as stones, mirrors, glass bottles, plaster, and resin, as well as plates suspended on arcs and rods.
In the installation, a fossilized tree trunk serves as a testament to nature before the presence of humans, symbolizing the connection between sky and earth and the transformation of vegetal material into mineral. Amber essence, dripping slowly, marks time in a sensory way through a woody fragrance that combines the ephemeral and the timeless. Fragments of human fingers in patinated bronze, along with rounded mirrors, create a duality between sky and ground, reflecting light and the body. The work invites the audience to a full sensory experience: sitting on tripods and looking through the hollow trunk produces an immersive effect of sight and smell.
The artwork reflects on the relationship between the organic and the artificial, offering an intimate and contemplative encounter within the sacred space.
