Ayla Tavares

Entre tiempos is a program of artistic residencies that Collegium has launched in collaboration with the Inclusartiz Institute. It is an initiative to promote the circulation of artists in the city of Arevalo and its surroundings, encouraging research on topics related to the history, culture and traditions of the region. Inaugurating the first 2022-23 period are Brazilian artists Ayla Tavares (September-December) and Xadalu Tupã Jekupé (January-March).

Ayla Tavares works around pottery, archeology, and everyday objects and investigates local craft practices -some at risk of disappearing- to contemplate clay as a metaphor for change, evolution and shifting temporalities.

During her residency at Collegium, Ayla Tavares developed 5 ceramic projects conceived as counter-monuments and micro-narratives, contrasting with the monumentality of a city like Arévalo, where "grand stories" abound. Her proposal involves frictions and dialogues with the landscape, as well as with the quasi-island situation in which the city is located, being nestled between the Adaja and Arevalillo rivers.
