Xadalu Tupã Jekupé

Entre tiempos is a program of artistic residencies that Collegium has launched in collaboration with Instituto Inclusartiz. It is an initiative to promote the circulation of artists in the city of Arevalo and its surroundings, encouraging research on topics related to the history, culture and traditions of the region.

The indigenous artist Xadalu Tupã Jekupé, in search of his pre-Columbian roots, seeks to reclaim a part of his erased identity. During his residency in Arévalo, he created a series of paintings titled "Contemporary Indigenous Gaucho Art," portraying the revolutions, wars, and civilizational processes that occurred in his community in southern Brazil, stemming from the Jesuit missions. In these works, the present and the past coexist and intertwine, blending family stories, wartime events, Gaucho indigenous cosmology, Arevalo architecture, spirits, and orally transmitted narratives.
