Louise Ward Morris

Louise Ward Morris will undertake an artistic residency at Collegium, where she will develop Atlas and Apparitions, a project that explores how digital technologies are reshaping the way we experience, navigate and understand the places we inhabit. Taking Vilém Flusser’s My Atlas as its point of departure, the project reflects on the evolution of maps, from printed atlases to tools such as Google Maps, while considering the possibilities and limitations of any attempt to represent a territory.

During her time in Arévalo, Ward Morris will lead a series of collective walks along the town’s boundaries, beginning with the route of its former medieval walls. Through 360° photography and photogrammetric scanning, she will document these journeys and transform them into condensed digital representations that will generate multiple digital versions of Arévalo. The project encourages reflection on how digital technologies shape our relationship with the landscape and influence the ways we perceive and inhabit our surroundings.

Louise Ward Morris (London, 1988) is a British sculptor working across new media who lives and works in Barcelona. Her practice combines sculpture, electronics, science and technology to investigate how digital technologies shape the human condition. Reworking everyday technological devices, she creates works that critically engage with contemporary digital culture, often in collaboration with scientists and researchers. Her work has been supported by Spain’s Ministry of Culture, the Royal Society of Sculptors, Acción Cultural Española and Arts Council England, among others, and has been presented at institutions and festivals including Saatchi Gallery and the London Short Film Festival.
