Inês Zenha

During her residency at Collegium, Inês Zenha (Portugal, 1995) developed a project focused on the relationships between the body, fluids, and mechanisms of perception and rejection. Taking the presence of water in Arévalo—a town situated between two rivers—as a starting point, the artist investigated systems of circulation and fluid transport, creating a series of ceramic works in collaboration with a pottery workshop of Portillo.

The pieces reference pipes, conduits, and other transport structures, while also evoking living organisms and ambiguous forms that oscillate between the organic and the artificial. Some recall hydras and other creatures associated with the viscous, the damp, and the amorphous. Through this imagery, Zenha explored the feelings of attraction and repulsion that certain forms can provoke, inviting viewers to question the prejudices and mechanisms of exclusion that shape our relationship with what is perceived as strange, unsettling, or different.

Inês Zenha (Portugal, 1995) lives and works in Portugal and holds a Fine Arts degree from Central Saint Martins, London. Her multidisciplinary practice explores identity, desire, and vulnerability, offering critical reflections on social norms and the resilience of the body. Her recent projects include the solo exhibitions Aguas Turbias at CA2M, Madrid (2025), and Ressurreição at Kunsthalle Lissabon, Lisbon (2022), as well as participation in Terraphilia at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid (2025).
