During her residency at Collegium, Claudia Pastomás will expand her research into the material culture of various crafts and building systems, taking Arévalo as a territory from which to explore how certain ways of making are transformed and materialised in the architecture and objects of the place. She is particularly interested in the role Arévalo played as a distribution point for Valencian furniture for much of the 20th century, and how this historical link connected distant territories through trade. Mudejar architecture will also serve as a starting point, given the way its coffered ceilings and timber frameworks are built piece by piece. Through fieldwork, the artist will let the territory itself guide and reshape her initial questions, and will use sculpture as a way of reflecting on the continued relevance of these crafts and traditional knowledge.

Claudia Pastomás (Valencia, 1998) is a visual artist whose practice centres on installation, combining sculpture and painting. A graduate in Fine Arts with a Master's in Artistic Production and Research from the Universitat Politècnica de València, her work investigates material culture, furniture production systems and the transformation of ways of making, questioning the paradigm shift in contemporary models of production. She was recently selected for Generaciones 2027 and awarded the XIII Beca Rambleta and the Premio Arte Joven de València. Her artist residencies include Poush in Paris and Piramidón Centre d'Art Contemporani in Barcelona.
