During her residency in Arévalo, Claudia Pastomás explored the history of the town’s furniture industry and the economic, social and productive changes that accompanied its development and decline. Through interviews and archival research, she reconstructed the story of seven companies involved in the manufacture, distribution, display and consumption of furniture. A key part of the project was her collaboration with Lourdes from Muebles González Llorente, which gave her access to the company’s former building, now abandoned, and allowed her to study its four floors and its architecture designed for furniture display. From the building, she recovered wooden balusters that had formed part of its structure and incorporated them into a large-scale sculptural installation: two opposing iron structures crossed by repeated elements, some retaining their original finish and others stripped back.

Claudia Pastomás (Valencia, 1998) is a visual artist whose practice centres on installation, combining sculpture and painting. A graduate in Fine Arts with a Master's in Artistic Production and Research from the Universitat Politècnica de València, her work investigates material culture, furniture production systems and the transformation of ways of making, questioning the paradigm shift in contemporary models of production. She was recently selected for Generaciones 2027 and awarded the XIII Beca Rambleta and the Premio Arte Joven de València. Her artist residencies include Poush in Paris and Piramidón Centre d'Art Contemporani in Barcelona.
