Adrián Gaitán

During his residency, Adrián Gaitán will work on the imprint left in Latin America by European models of furniture and architecture introduced during the colonial period. Many of these designs, associated with palaces and aristocratic residences, gradually became symbols of prestige and “good taste.” The project starts from this inherited visual culture to question why certain forms continue to hold value and what ideas they still convey today.By constructing pieces with everyday and reused materials—reclaimed wood, cardboard, plastics, found metals, and domestic objects—the artist will transform these historical models into fragile, provisional structures. As materials and finishes change, the forms lose their appearance of authority and become more approachable, open to new readings. The project offers a critical yet accessible reflection on how domestic objects carry stories of class, memory, and cultural adaptation.
