New Artist in Residence: Luana Fischer
Introducing Luana Fischer, the next artist-in-residence at Collegium. She will develop a project titled "Huella" (Trace). This work aims to connect the human, material, and landscape heritage of Arévalo, bringing them together through photography.
During the upcoming month of June, Fischer will reside in Arévalo to carry out this initiative."Huella" will consist of producing a series of portraits of approximately 15 people from the city. These individuals will share a connection to the ancestral and traditional activities of Arévalo, such as rural, gastronomic, artistic, and religious endeavors. The portraits will be taken in various spaces within the old Jesuit college of Arévalo, a historic building that will play a crucial role in the project: as the future headquarters of Collegium, this place connects the past, present, and future through both the institution and Fischer's work. Two essential elements for "Huella" will be light and the walls of the building, symbolizing the permanence and history that endure over time.
In addition to the portraits, Fischer will also include two additional sets of photographic images: landscapes of Arévalo and still lifes of personal objects belonging to the subjects of the portraits. These images will complement and conclude the cycle initiated by the portrait series, working with the concepts of permanence and ancestry.
Dedicated to editorial portraiture, photography education, a PhD in Fine Arts, and working as a visual artist, Luana Fischer from Brazil has been living in Madrid for 18 years. She teaches at Saint Louis University in Madrid and the Lens School of Visual Arts. Her photographs are published in Gentleman, Vanity Fair, and Folha de São Paulo, and her artistic works have been exhibited in Spain and Brazil. She was awarded the IX Marc Ferréz Photography Prize in 2010.
Her project "Cápsula" was selected for Descubrimientos by PhotoEspaña in 2017 and for the Documenta Madrid Festival in 2019. Her project "The Underwater World" was exhibited in Segovia and Madrid, and it will travel to the José Guerrero Center in Granada in 2024.
