Rituals of Daily Life

Leda Catunda, Sol com cérebro, 2023
This exhibition is inspired by the site of Arévalo, its unique landscape formed by layers of history and the co-existence of cultures, religions, and peoples. From the vantage point of this medieval Spanish village, the exhibition aims to explore rituals of daily life and its embeddedness in different notions of time—archaeological, agricultural, architectural, ideological, and colonial. Through poetic and concrete gestures, artists in the exhibition explore questions about how we understand the contemporary through our past lives. They ask, how a radical re-negotiation of our relationship to the natural, social, and political worlds can transform our sense of the real, our perception of what is possible. Fundamental to these artists is a deep sense of care and respect for daily rituals—of making, processing, learning, building, and reflecting, thereby becoming everyday practices that engage the body, mind, and spirit and re-organize our relationship to animate and inanimate worlds.
